EWBL League Rules

1. Games will consist of 3 inning.

2. Innings will consist of 3 outs.

3. Everything is in play. Balls can be caught for outs off of anything, including the outfield fence, trees, pitching machine and backstop. The exception is that the ball must be moving. For example, a ball sitting on top of a bush is no longer eligible to be an out.

4. Any ball hit off of the pitching machine is a dead ball. No ball or strike, batter rehits. Unless the ball hits the pitching machine in the air and is caught, then it is an out.

5. Any 3rd pitch foul ball that directly hits the strike zone will be considered a strikeout.

6. Any runner at any time can physically be hit with the ball for an out if they are not safely on a base.

7. A hit ball must pass the pitcher hit line or it will be considered an out.

8. For plays at home, if the ball hits ANY part of the backstop structure, net, or strike zone before the runner touches home plate the runner is out.

9. A mercy rule of 4 runs will apply to all innings except the last inning or extra innings. The last inning and extra innings are "open" innings allowing unlimited runs.

10. If extra innings are required then the last player out of the previous inning will start at 2nd base and each team starts with 1 out.

11. Teams are allowed 1 intentional walk of one player from the opposing team per game.

12. In the event that a "ghost runner" is needed, the opposing team will decide which base the "ghost runner" will reside.

13. Only 3 fielders will play the field at any given time. If more than 3 players show up for a game every player will hit but any 3 fielders can play the field for any given inning.

14. There must be one fielder (not including the pitcher) on each side of second base at all times. No playing "the shift". Fielders must play behind the pitcher hit line.

15. In the event where a team only has less than 3 team members available to play, players from other teams will be chosen at random to play.

16. Drinking of alcoholic beverages is strongly encouraged.
