Turkeys Walk It Off, Beavers Walk It Back: Chad Goes 4-for-5 and Nobody Cares
TYRONE — The Tyrone Turkeys, a club that had spent the season being used as a warm-up act, beat the Burketon Beavers 7-5 on Wednesday, and they did it the only way a 2-6 team ever does it: by letting the other guys hand it over with both hands and a bow on top.
Bergman ended it in the bottom of the third, which is the wiffle ball equivalent of winning the lottery with a ticket you found in a parking lot. He finished 3-for-5 with a home run, and for one evening he was the best player in a backyard in Durham Region.
"I was just trying to put a good swing on it," said Bergman, who had in fact been trying to pull everything to the fence since the first inning and has never once in his life been "just trying" anything.
The Beavers, meanwhile, got four hits in five at-bats from Chad, including a homer. Four hits. In a three-inning game. That is a performance, and it went directly into the bin, because Burketon spotted Tyrone four runs in the first and then spent the rest of the evening explaining the situation.
Beau added two hits and a home run and a strikeout, which is a tidy summary of the whole Beaver operation: loud, occasionally productive, fundamentally unserious.
"We beat these guys 8-2 a week ago, so this one's on us," said Beau, who in reality spent the walk-off standing in the outfield with his hands on his hips like a man watching his car get towed.
Justin went 2-for-5 and spent the balance of the night insisting Chris is inventing rules as he goes, a complaint that would carry more weight if Justin's team had not been outscored 32-14 in a week.
It was quiet after the last out. Burketon drops to 4-4 and has now lost two straight after getting flattened 17-6 by the Donkeys, who remain 7-1 and remain the only team here playing baseball instead of impressions of it. The Turkeys gets a win. Frame it.
