Donkeys Complete No-Hitter Against Shorthanded Cows, 5-0
COURTICE — The Enniskillen Donkeys held the Courtice Cows without a hit Wednesday evening, winning 5-0 in a three-inning contest that the Cows entered with an incomplete roster owing to injury.
The Donkeys scored once in the first, went scoreless in the second, and added four in the third. The Cows did not score in any inning, and did not reach base by hit at any point in the game. The result moves the Donkeys to 2-0 on the season and extends their winning streak to two. The Cows fall to 0-2 and have now lost two straight, the previous being a 9-8 decision to the Turkeys earlier the same day.
Austin went 4-for-5 for the Donkeys with two home runs and no strikeouts. He was also the pitcher of record for the no-hitter, a circumstance the league has not formally addressed in any bylaw reviewed for this report.
Chris added two hits in five at-bats, with two solid strikeouts.
"We had to grind for every one of those," said Chris, who struck out twice and whose team scored four runs in the third inning without recording an out in between.
The Cows were retired in order across all three frames. John went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Lee also went 0-for-3.
"I got good wood on a couple of those," said John, who did not put a ball in play in any of his three at-bats.
Elsewhere Wednesday, the Donkeys defeated the Beavers 4-0, meaning the Donkeys have now completed two shutouts in a single day, and the Beavers defeated the Turkeys 3-1. The Beavers and Turkeys are both 1-1.
The Cows are scheduled to return to the yard with a fuller roster for next weeks games.
